Skip to contentThe FUSS (follicular unit strip surgery) method consists of extracting a “strip” or “ribbon” of scalp from the back of the head, from which the follicular units are obtained, which are separated, classified and then transplanted into the recipient area one by one.
The size of the strip will depend on the need for hair that we have to obtain to cover the area to be populated and other factors such as the patient’s hair density and skin elasticity.
With this method, up to 3000 follicular units can be obtained.
The FUSS method is recommended in some patients with advanced alopecia whose area to be repopulated is large and who do not wish to wear shaved or very short hair in the back area (as it leaves a scar that can be easily hidden by letting hair grow in this area). In patients with scars from a previous intervention or in the event that they cannot shave.
